Evaluated an insurance companies Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions quantification methodology, compared GHG emission quantification and reporting practices for a select subset of relevant industry peers with a summary of recommendations for GHG emissions calculations, verification, establishment of a base reporting year, and setting emissions reductions goals and reporting. After completing the evaluation, recommendations included defining organizational and operational boundaries, refining GHG emission calculations utilizing available standardized GHG calculation tools such as the GHG Protocol or simplified EPA Center for Corporate Climate Leadership Simplified GHG Emissions Calculators, identification of a GHG base year or period for which would represent reliable, and verifiable emissions data to enable comprehensive and consistent tracking of emissions over time; establishment of GHG reduction targets following the measurement and establishment of emission baselines; and initiating public reporting, adhering to established voluntary reporting guidelines, such as those provided by CDP and/or GRI and audited to ISO 14064 standards to validate accuracy and enhance credibility.
